Connect the

Digital and Physical Worlds with Artificial Intelligence!

In this hands-on workshop, students experience firsthand how artificial intelligence (AI) integrates with physical computing. They explore how machine learning can control real-world devices, and create intelligent systems that react to their surroundings.

Recommended for:

Middle school (grades 5-6) and early secondary school (grades 1-2)

Class size:

Up to 20 students

Duration:

2.5 hours

What Students Will Build

Participants develop a complete AI-powered automation system from scratch:

Train an AI Model

Using machine learning, students teach the computer to recognize specific objects through image classification.

Build a Smart Gate

Construct a physical gate made of cardboard, equipped with a Micro:bit microcontroller and a servo motor.

Program Intelligent Control

Connect the AI model to the Micro:bit and program the gate to open automatically, but only when the trained object is detected.

Learning Objectives

This workshop demonstrates how machine learning can be used to solve real, tangible problems. Students gain foundational knowledge in:

Image recognition and how computers “see” objects

Training and accuracy of machine learning models

Physical computing with sensors and actuators

AI-driven automation in access control and security systems

Integration of software intelligence with hardware control
